| General Questions | Where are your servers located? Our servers are located at The Planet data center. The Planet's network is fully meshed and redundant with multiple backbone providers.
Which operating system (OS) do your servers run? Our servers run Red Hat Enterprise Linux for the Intel platform.
Do you oversell space and/or bandwidth? No, we never oversell space or bandwidth. Many web hosting companies will sell more space and bandwidth than they have available, assuming that most of their clients will only use a portion of the space and bandwidth allotted to them. The major problem with overselling is that it often causes web servers that are slow or unavailable due to excessive use. At Ardent Hosting, you can rest assured that the space and bandwidth you are paying for will always be there for you, whether you use it or not. Furthermore, because we do not oversell, our servers are faster and more reliable.
Can I use a third-party DNS service such as ZoneEdit? Yes, you may use external DNS servers if you do not wish to use ours. Your site has a server IP address which can be used to set up your records. If you need help with these settings, please contact customer support.
How do I upload files to my website? This can be done in two ways. You can log in to cPanel and use the File Manager to upload and edit your files. The second method is to use an ftp program to transfer files to and from the server. You can find your cpanel/ftp access information on your account management page. Your site should be uploaded to the 'public_html' directory.
Can I upgrade to a larger hosting plan if I need more space or bandwidth? Yes, you can upgrade your hosting plan at any time. To do so, please open a new Support Ticket.
Can I have more than one hosting plan under one account? Yes, you can have as many hosting plans as you like under your account. To add a new hosting plan, please open a new Support Ticket.
Is domain registration included? No, we do not offer domain registration services. You will need to register your domain elsewhere. If you are not sure where to register a domain, we can recommend a reliable, low-cost registrar. Contact us for more information.
What are Add-on Domains and Parked Domains? An add-on domain is a domain name that points to a subdirectory within your account. This is useful for running 2 or more web sites on one hosting plan. A parked domain is a domain that points to another domain. This is useful if you want yoursite.net to point to yoursite.com, etc. Add-on and Parked domains must be registered domain names that are configured to point to our DNS servers.
Do you support Frontpage extensions? Frontpage support is available upon request. If your site requires Frontpage extensions, contact customer support and we will install them for you.
Can I have a dedicated IP address? Our hosting plans do not include a dedicated IP address. If you require one, you must be able to provide justification per ARIN guidelines. An example of such justification would be if your site requires SSL or anonymous FTP. There is an additional monthly fee of $1.50 for each IP address.
How do I cancel my hosting account? If you wish to remove a hosting plan or cancel your account, please open a new Support Ticket.
| | E-mail Questions | How do I set up and manage my e-mail accounts? You can set up and manage your email accounts in cPanel. Simply log in and follow the links under 'E-mail Management'.
How do I access my webmail? To read your webmail, go to yoursite.com/webmail and log in using your complete e-mail address (yourname@yoursite.com) as your username.
| | Billing Questions | Are there any set-up fees or hidden fees of any kind? No. All accounts receive free set-up. The only fee you will ever have to pay is your monthly hosting fee.
| | cPanel Questions | What is cPanel? CPanel is a fully featured web-based control panel that allows you to manage your domain through a web interface. The idea is to transfer as much of the control and responsibility of managing your web site to you. You have the ability to manage all aspects of e-mail, files, backup, FTP, CGI scripts, and web site statistics.
